Hello, Just Add Rover community! Today, I wanted to give you a behind-the-scenes look at a project near and dear to my heart - the creation of craft kits for my neighborhood. Typically, I assemble these kits from donated art supplies or gently-used materials I find at Resource Depot, a fantastic organization that prevents hundreds of thousands of pounds of reusable materials from ending up in landfills each year. The materials I find vary each visit, making each craft kit unique.
Since the pandemic, I've distributed about a thousand craft kits a year to kids and others in my local area. It's a small gesture that brings our community together and one that I genuinely love.
This week, each kit is dog-themed, featuring coloring pages that I designed using Midjourney, a tool that brings my canine-inspired ideas to life. You can also find these designs showcased on the Just Add Rover site under the 'Portfolio' tab.
Creating these craft kits is a delightful process! From sketching the designs to packaging each kit, it's a labor of love. I've put together a short video for you to get a sneak peek into how these kits come to life.
Distributing these kits brings me immense joy. Not only do children enjoy these kits, but they're also popular among adults in the community. One veteran with PTSD has found the fine-line coloring kits helpful, grandmothers pick them up to share with their grandchildren, and many children from the local migrant community find joy in them. As the granddaughter of an immigrant, I feel privileged to give back to the community in this small but meaningful way.
I hope you've enjoyed this behind-the-scenes look at how I merge my love for dogs and community service. Do you participate in any dog-themed crafts or community activities? I'd love to hear your stories!
